First there was Le Petit Stiletto and now it seems that “Demi-Wedge” is the heel shape du jour for ladies shoes.

With shoes moving away from the sky scrapper heels of the past few years towards slightly lower styles and old summer favourite has even had a makeover.

The wedge has bow been transformed into the “Demi Wedge” which is slightly lower than the normal look but still just as stylish.

The design was seen on the catwalks at Chloe, Michael Kors and Stella McCartney and the new look features natural materials like wood and cork and according to Marie Claire the demi wedge is “a strong contender for the season’s statement shoe”.

According to the Everything Fabulous Blog Demi wedges gladiators are “the must have for the season…is comfortable looks fabulous with shorts, versatile for maxi and mini dresses…and you can get away with it with long jeans (great with white jeans also).”

While Elisa Anniss writing in the FT has likened the trend to the other huge style choice of the season the clog. “The clog isn’t the only footwear favourite having an unlikely renaissance: moccasins, espadrilles and half-wedges are similarly staging a comeback everywhere from Roger Vivier and Prada to Kurt Geiger and Office,” she said.Jane Drysdale, buying director at Office told the FT “While some designers take a while to come up with new shapes for mid-heels, it is easy to pull out old classics like espadrilles and cork wedges, which are well-suited to this season’s nautical trend.” He reckons the trend is down to a backlash against sky-high footwear as well as an increasing demand for more down to earth styles.But the question as always is what to wear with you shinny new shoes well Lucia Debieux, Junior Fashion Editor reckons we should “wear wedges with shorts or denim cut-offs to keep the look youthful and fun.”
